Frequently asked questions
We offer tours Friday through Sunday. Friday tour times are 1pm, 2:30pm, and 4pm. Saturday and Sunday tour times are 11:30am, 1pm, 2:30pm, and 4pm. We are closed Monday through Thursday. Reservations are required.
Our 40+ award-winning alpacas are the stars, along with two llamas (Eileen and Inky), two Peruvian Paso horses (Belmonte and Caudio), a black sheep named Timmy, peacocks and peahens, including our spectacular Pepe, chickens, and Archie our Filipino water buffalo. Jo Jo, our Anatolian Shepherd, and Rigby, our Golden Retriever, keep watch as well — though they're working dogs and not part of the tour experience. And if you're really lucky, you'll get to see our farm cat Charlie.
We're sorry, but no pets are allowed on the property -- not even when left in your parked, temperature-controlled Tesla. Alpacas are extremely sensitive animals, and unfamiliar animals can cause stress for the herd, which disrupts the experience for all guests. We appreciate your understanding.
Yes — reservations are required. We do not accept walk-ins. Booking in advance also ensures you get your preferred time slot, especially on weekends when tours fill up quickly.
Carpinteria sees significant weekend traffic, especially in summer, and especially coming from LA. We are not able to offer refunds or same-day reschedules due to traffic delays, so we strongly recommend arriving in the area well before your tour time. Santa Claus beach is five minutes away and Padaro Beach Grill is a great spot to wait if you're early. If you do arrive late, you will be allowed to join up with the tour for the remainder of the allotted tour time.
Tours are approximately one hour. You'll move through several pastures with a guide who will introduce you to the animals, share the farm's history, and help you get great photos along the way. If you'd like to extend your stay, purchase a picnic table add-on. This feature offers an additional 60 minutes on property and a table on our deck to enjoy a BYO lunch with one of the best views in all of Santa Barbara.
Absolutely — this is one of the best experiences in the area for families with young children. Alpacas are gentle, curious, and endlessly entertaining for little ones. We recommend booking earlier time slots for younger kids.
Comfortable, closed-toe shoes are encouraged -- you'll be walking through farm pastures. Dress in layers; mornings can be cool and afternoons warm. Leave your best outfit for after the visit, as the animals are friendly and enthusiastic.
We're at 4036 Foothill Road, Carpinteria, CA 93013 — about 20 minutes south of Santa Barbara and 90 minutes north of Los Angeles. We recommend arriving a few minutes early as parking and the walk to the farm entrance take a moment.
Group tours ($35/adult) are open to the public and may include other guests. Private tours ($600 for up to 20 guests) give your party exclusive access to the farm for the full hour — no other groups, just yours. Private tours are ideal for celebrations, parties, and special occasions.
Yes! Private events are one of our specialties. We offer several packages — including "On the Deck" and "Under the Oaks" experiences — designed for birthdays, bachelorette parties, corporate outings, and more. Visit our Private Events page or email us to learn more.
Yes — our farm store is open to tour guests and stocked with alpaca goods including stuffed animals, scarves, blankets, socks, hats, bags, keychains, and yarn. Everything makes a wonderful souvenir or gift.
We do not offer refunds for cancelled visits. However, guests are welcome to reschedule their visit if they provide at least 24-hour notice. If you don't yet know for when you'd like to reschedule, we're happy to hold the reservation for 12 months. Rescheduling can be completed by clicking "change booking" located in the confirmation email, calling 877-386-4992, using our chat feature on the website, or by contacting us via email.
Tours generally run rain or shine. However, if conditions become unsafe for guests or the animals, we'll be in touch prior to your tour for rescheduling or refund. If you have any questions or concerns you can always reach out to us at canzellealpacas@gmail.com.
You can reschedule your tour up to 24-hours before your tour time. You'll find a "change reservation" link in your confirmation email, or feel free to reach out to us at 877-386-4992 or canzellealpacas@gmail.com and we'd be happy to assist you.
